When we heard about The Barbers pub opening in Grangegorman we were naturally a bit skeptical. A themed pub can go either way. But, our fears were allayed on our first first. That first visit turned to a second, and then to a third, and now we’re real converts.

So, we had tried the pub part of it, but what about the barbers? They do indeed have a functioning barbers on the premises. They have a barber room with clear windows into it from the bar, with a full professional setup. The barber room doubles at night as the stage for the various musicians and performers that play regularly in the pub.

The whole operation is a family affair. Chris who owns and operates the bar takes care of the pints, and his daughter Sarah is the barber in residence. Chris himself is also a barber, among other things. Their enthusiasm for the venture makes the prospect of a pint of a hair cut all the more appealing.

We popped in last week for a haircut and a chat, and I have to say that there’s a lot to be said for having a pint when getting your hair chopped. As well as being unique, it’s also a very handy service. A lot of barbers close at 5 or 6pm, making it difficult for anyone working 9-5 to get a chop. In The Barbers, they’re open until 10pm some nights for chops. So, you can kill two birds with one stone by getting your hair chopped and having an after work drink.

I won’t be posting a photo of my head, but it’s safe to say that I’m very pleased with my chop.
