MacTurcaill’s on Townsend Street closed in March of 2015, and since that time the building has lain vacant. There has been an ‘Opening Soon’ sign in the window for so long that it lost it’s meaning quite a while ago.

We would often get inquiries from the public and from journalists whether we knew what was going on with the site. Dublin Inquirer did a good article on it last year- Link.

Now, it seems as though work is finally underway to breath new life into the pub. All we know is that when we walked by last week there were people inside doing work on it.

We used to enjoy our visits to the pub when it was open. For a time they were doing quite cheap pints, but that may not have proved sustainable. They had good crowds of Trinity students in, particularly from clubs and societies. It’s quite a large bar, divided into 2 large areas and separated by a smaller, secluded room.

Whatever type of bar goes in there should be able to do good business, given that the pub trade has really picked up in the last 2 years, and the location is extremely good.

If you want to take a look at how MacTurcaill’s used to look, take a look at the old facebook page- Link. You may notice that at various times there were 3 different spellings given for the pub’s name.
