25 years ago last week The Boars Head opened it’s doors under new owners, Hugh and Ann Hourican. In that time many famous faces passed through the doors, enjoying the friendship of Hugh and Ann, as well as a few pints. It’s as well loved by some of the biggest names in Irish sport as it is by the regular punters who have enjoyed a quarter century of entertaining times through its doors.
It’s now a well known and long standing tradition for the Dublin football team to visit the pub on a morning after an All Ireland final win and for Dubs supporters to be there the night of and probably again after. It’s not just the senior teams that celebrate here and indeed it’s become a bit of a tradition for clubs and teams winning competitions big and small to bring their trophy into the pub on a mini parade.
Most recently, Masters winner Shane Lowry (a regular visitor to the pub and friend of Hugh and Ann’s) brought his trophy in a triumphant return to the pub following his massive achievement.
There’s no signs of the pub stopping or losing its popularity, so another 25 or more years of sport and pints is hardly out of the question.
