Out of a pool of pubs from Ireland, to Europe, to Asia, America, and all over the world, Toners has been named by Irish Hospitality Global during their recent awards ceremony as having the best whiskey experience globally. This is another feather in the cap of a pub that was named one of the world’s foremost literary pubs, having as it does connections with W.B. Yeats (the only pub to have such links), Joyce, Oliver St John Gogarty, and Bram Stoker.
The pub saw off stiff competition from Irish pubs abroad such as Tir na nOg in Aarhus, Galway Bay in Annapolis Maryland, and Scruffy Murphy’s in Bangkok.
The pub has had a long association with Irish whiskey and the pub has for decades sold their own ‘James Toner Whiskey’. You can see the whiskey on display in their purpose built ‘James Toner Whiskey Room’ that displays the bottles prominently in the cabinet and has high tables around which you and a few friends can sit and sample flights of various whiskeys.
Having a good whiskey experience can mean several different things depending on the bar and is not necessarily based solely on the size of the selection. The setting of the experience has to come into play and Toners original Victorian aesthetic is certainly a wonderful accompaniment to a wonderful whiskey.
So, if you’re fond of a drop and looking for a new watering hole to sample some new (or very old) whiskey, then Toners might be worth stopping into.
