There’s been plenty of buzz around Wetherspoons entry into the Irish market and people will be interested to see their latest addition, The Great Wood, in Blanchardstown.
It’s located on the site that used to be nightclubs that went by the names West, Light, and finally, Heaven. It’s quite a large premises, so it will be interesting to see how this one compares their two existing pubs in Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire.
The date has been set for their their opening, and it will be June 23rd. They’ve recently started hiring people for bar, kitchen, and cleaning jobs. For more information on that, follow this link.
This new pub gets its name from what the general area of Blanchardstown used to be known as, ‘The Great Scaldwood’. It’s pretty clear why they dropped the ‘scald’ part of it. The big question is, will this pub become known as ‘The Scaldy’?
Work has recently started on their other pub in Swords, which is yet to be named. It’s on the main street where The Old Boro once was.
Rumours of Wetherspoons purchases seem to be attached to every pub in Ireland that’s up for sale at the moment, but these are rarely true. One such rumour was about Hanlons pub on the North Circular road. We confirmed with the estate agents responsible for the sale that Wetherspoons had not bought it.
