This might not seem like big news, and it probably isn’t, but we do find it interesting and a little bit curious. There’s grapes growing on the vine in the one little area of McGowans beer garden in Phibsboro that gets sun.
I wouldn’t have thought that Ireland would be the best climate for growing grapes, but maybe that’s just for the varieties that make good wine. I don’t think we’ll be seeing a Phibsboro vintage any day soon, but it does certainly bring a bit of colour and greenery to the smoking area.
You’d probably expect this kind of urban gardening from L. Mulligan Grocer or another gastropub, but no, it’s everyone’s favourite Northside late bar, McGowans.
This is the kind of pet project we like to see in pubs.
