There’s hundreds of events going on around Ireland this evening as part of Culture Night. There’s several pubs participating around Dublin, and one event in particular caught our eye as unique.

O’Shea’s Merchant on the south quays will be having a genealogy night as part of Culture Night. From 5-8pm they’re inviting all comers to enjoy some talks about genealogy and even the opportunity to have a one on one with a professional genealogist. The service is provided by ‘Irish History Hub’, one of the leading Irish genealogy services.

It should prove as a good starting point for anyone who has put constructing their family tree on the long finger. You can expect to get some advice on how best to make a start on tracing your family history through parish records, the census, and other materials available online.

This won’t be a one night only affair, as O’Shea’s will be making this a weekly event, mostly aimed at visiting tourists of Irish heritage. They have free sessions with genealogists, with the option to pay for a more lengthy and in depth consultation. For Culture Night though, it’s all free.
